Hello out there, welcome to my blog. Make yourself at home.

The goal of this blog, and the ensuing research paper, is to develop recommendations to combat urban sprawl in Kamloops. I'll be looking at how Kamloops stacks up against other areas, the benefits and drawbacks of increased density, and at similarly populous towns and cities which have been successful in reducing or preventing sprawl.

Please feel free to post with any suggestions or references you may have.

  1. Hi Mark. Interesting photos. Did you take them?
Another site you should look at is the Vancouver EcoDensity Planning Initiative: http://www.vancouver-ecodensity.ca/
They are changing the zoning in various parts of Vancouver to allow for higher densities. For example, a city block with back lanes could allow people to add secondary suites off the lane. Perhaps you could look at a few neighborhoods in Kamloops to see if this would be practical?

  2. Thanks, Dale. Added that one to my links. I'll definitely look at that for Kamloops. As for the pictures, those are the Flickr pool for "Kamloops." They're only there until I have my own interesting graphics to replace them with.
